KAILUA-KONA, Hawaii (Local News Wire) – A motorcyclist was killed in a collision at the intersection of Palani Road and Kealaka’a Street on Wednesday, June 19, 2024.
Authorities responded to the incident around 7:56 p.m. A 2023 Yamaha XTZ690 motorcycle, driven by Zachary Stubbs, 29, was reportedly traveling north when it overtook several vehicles before running a red light.
After clipping a silver 2006 Nissan Frontier pickup truck, driven by a 59-year-old man, Stubbs was ejected from the motorcycle and struck a utility pole. He was transported to Kona Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 10:04 p.m.
Preliminary investigations indicate that speed was a contributing factor, and officials confirmed that Stubbs was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
