High Winds Contribute to Fatal Motorcycle Crash, Officials Report.

Augusta Man Dies in Motorcycle Crash Amid High Winds

A 53-year-old Augusta man was killed in a motorcycle crash on SW Haverhill Road around 2:24 p.m. Thursday, according to the Butler County Sheriff’s Office.

Salvador J. Tovar Jr. was riding a 1998 Harley-Davidson when he lost control and was ejected from the motorcycle. Authorities continue to investigate the incident, noting that high winds are “believed to be a contributing factor” in the crash.

The accident occurred just north of SW 50th Avenue, near El Dorado. At the time of the crash, weather conditions were severe, with gusts recorded at 48 mph at El Dorado/Captain Jack Thomas Memorial Airport shortly before the accident.

Emergency services responded to the scene, but Tovar was pronounced dead at the site. Lane closures were implemented during the investigation, and the road has since reopened.
