Two Killed, Eight Injured in Multi-Vehicle Crash near Casper
CASPER, WY — A multi-vehicle crash involving a commercial tanker truck and seven other vehicles occurred Friday, June 26, at 1:50 p.m. on U.S. Highway 20/26, approximately 45 miles northwest of Casper, resulting in two fatalities and eight injuries, according to the Wyoming Highway Patrol (WHP).
The incident took place near mile marker 58.3 when the westbound 2024 Western Star tanker truck failed to stop for traffic entering a one-lane construction zone. Authorities reported that a Chevrolet Silverado, Toyota Highlander, Toyota 4Runner, Subaru Outback, Chevrolet Camaro, Ram 1500, and Chevrolet Impala were struck.
The WHP identified the deceased as 74-year-old James Faris Cox and 69-year-old Susan Horn Cox from Golden, Colorado. Both were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.
Eight individuals sustained injuries, with a 3-year-old and an adult male transported by helicopter to Banner Wyoming Medical Center. A 1-year-old and an adult female were taken by ground ambulance; both were treated and released. Two additional injured individuals were also treated and released.
As of Wednesday, no criminal charges have been filed, and the investigation remains active. WHP noted possible driver inattention as a contributing factor and stated that the weather conditions were clear at the time of the crash.
