Hillsboro Woman Dies in Highway Crash Sunday
HILLSBORO, MO—Karen C. Kuenzel, 67, died following a crash on Hwy. 21 near De Soto on Sunday, Aug. 23, at 2:24 p.m.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Kuenzel was operating a 2019 Can-Am Spyder northbound when she was struck from behind by a 2012 Nissan Altima driven by a 28-year-old man from Black. The Altima was reportedly following too closely, causing a rear-end collision that ejected Kuenzel.
Emergency responders from the Valle Ambulance District transported Kuenzel to Mercy Hospital Jefferson, where she was pronounced dead at 4 p.m. Both drivers were reported to be wearing safety devices at the time of the accident.
The crash caused significant damage to the Spyder, which was totaled, and moderate damage to the Altima. The Missouri State Highway Patrol is investigating the incident.
