Hillsboro Woman Dies in Highway Crash Sunday Afternoon
DE SOTO, MO — A 67-year-old woman from Hillsboro, Karen C. Kuenzel, died following a two-vehicle crash on Hwy. 21 on Sunday, Aug. 23, at 2:24 p.m., according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
The collision occurred when a 28-year-old man from Black driving a 2012 Nissan Altima struck the rear of a 2019 Can-Am Spyder operated by Kuenzel. Authorities reported that the Altima was following too closely at the time of the incident. Kuenzel was ejected from the Spyder upon impact.
Emergency responders from the Valle Ambulance District transported Kuenzel to Mercy Hospital Jefferson, where she was pronounced dead at 4 p.m. on Aug. 24, as confirmed by the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office.
The Can-Am Spyder was declared a total loss, while the Nissan Altima sustained moderate damage. Both drivers were reportedly wearing safety devices.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash. Further details on lane closures or tows have not been released.
