Impaired Driver Flees Scene After Fatal Crash in Conneaut, Ohio.

CONNEAUT, OH — A pedestrian was fatally struck by a vehicle in the 400 block of West Main Road around 10:30 a.m. on May 17, according to Conneaut Police.

Emergency responders found a 50-year-old local resident receiving aid from bystanders after the vehicle fled the scene. The victim was transported by Conneaut EMS and the Kingsville Fire Department to University Hospitals Conneaut Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Authorities located the driver, a 42-year-old man from Twinsburg, shortly after the incident. He has been arrested and charged with Aggravated Vehicular Homicide, Operating a Vehicle While Under the Influence of Drug Abuse, and Fleeing the Scene of an Accident. He remains in the Conneaut Municipal Jail awaiting a court appearance.

This incident marks the second serious vehicle crash in Conneaut involving an impaired driver. The Conneaut Police Department stated they will enhance OVI enforcement to improve community safety and reminded residents to drive sober.
