Six Motorcycle Accidents Reported During Sturgis Rally; Injuries Confirmed
CUSTER, SD — Authorities reported six motorcycle accidents during the 2025 Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, resulting in confirmed injuries.
The first incident occurred at 10:37 a.m. on Wildlife Loop Rd., where a 2023 Harley Davidson veered into a ditch. The driver, wearing a helmet, sustained minor injuries and was transported to Custer Monument Hospital.
At 10:43 a.m., a second motorcycle accident involved a 2014 Harley Davidson on US 14A. The driver failed to negotiate a curve, resulting in serious, non-life-threatening injuries. The individual was airlifted to Rapid City Monument Health Hospital.
A police pursuit at 1:29 p.m. led to an accident on I-90 near mile marker 170. The driver of a 2005 GMC Sierra fled from law enforcement and lost control while avoiding a tire deflation device. The driver suffered minor injuries and was taken into custody by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.
At 1:33 p.m., a 2012 Honda motorcycle and a 2013 Harley Davidson collided on Pleasant Valley Rd. The Harley’s driver sustained minor injuries; neither rider was wearing a helmet.
Later, at 9:03 p.m., a 2021 Harley Davidson struck a deer on I-90, causing the rider to be ejected and sustain serious, non-life-threatening injuries. The driver was transported to Monument Health in Spearfish.
So far, the total number of injury accidents during the rally has risen to 41, significantly higher than the previous year’s figures. Traffic citations have also increased to 873, while DUI arrests are down compared to last year. The South Dakota Highway Patrol continues to update statistics throughout the rally.
