Indiana Man Charged Following Fatal Motorcycle Crash, Police Report.

MICHIGAN CITY, Ind.A motorcyclist was fatally injured in an accident involving a van on Sunday evening, according to Michigan City Police.

Details of the Incident

The crash occurred around 7 p.m. at the intersection of Franklin Street and Westwind Drive. Emergency responders found 23-year-old Matthew Castellanos suffering from life-threatening injuries.

He was transported to Franciscan Health Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. Reports indicate Castellanos was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

According to investigators, the motorcycle was traveling south on Franklin Street when the van, driven by 45-year-old Keith Starnes, was heading north and attempted a left turn onto Westwind Drive, colliding with the motorcycle.

Charges Filed

Starnes was taken to Northwest Health Hospital for a chemical test, with toxicology results pending. He faces multiple charges, including reckless homicide, and has been issued a cash bond of $15,000.

Authorities indicated that additional charges may follow as the investigation continues.
