Motorcycle Accident Claims Life Near New Plymouth; ISP Reports 50th Fatality of Summer
NEW PLYMOUTH, ID – A motorcycle accident on US30 resulted in a fatality on August 30, marking the Idaho State Police’s (ISP) 50th reported fatal accident during the 100 Deadliest Days of Summer.
The incident occurred around 5:30 PM at SE 2nd Ave. A 25-year-old woman driving a 2020 Toyota Tacoma, accompanied by a juvenile passenger, was traveling northbound when she slowed to make a westbound turn. A 33-year-old male rider on a 1994 Yamaha XJ600 motorcycle attempted to avoid the Tacoma, crossing into oncoming traffic before colliding with the pickup’s driver’s side.
The motorcycle rider was transported to a local hospital with critical injuries and died five days later. Authorities confirmed that he was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. Both occupants of the Tacoma were properly restrained and reported uninjured.
ISP officials noted that this is the third motorcycle fatality in the past week and the 13th since the summer season began. The previous two fatalities occurred on August 28 in separate collisions involving Jeeps.
Authorities have advised that investigations are ongoing. Motorists should exercise caution as the summer season concludes and traffic conditions change.
