Motorcycle Accident Claims Life of American Legion Rider in Missouri
HANNIBAL, MO — A motorcycle accident during the American Legion Legacy Run on Tuesday resulted in the death of Michael Haas, a member of Arden H. McKee Post 128 in Sterling, Kansas.
According to authorities, the incident occurred during the morning leg of the ride to Keokuk. The details surrounding the accident remain under investigation. Emergency responders provided medical aid at the scene, but Haas succumbed to his injuries later that day.
National American Legion Riders Chairman David Heredia Jr. confirmed the news at a rally stop in Hannibal. “The mission must go on,” he stated, emphasizing that the ride would continue in Haas’s honor as they head toward Terre Haute and Louisville.
Witnesses reported that Haas’s wife, Terri, was present before his passing, providing comfort during his final moments. Heredia reflected on their bond, noting that Terri found peace knowing her husband was “doing what he loved” surrounded by friends and fellow riders.
Legacy Run Chaplain Brian Duncan addressed the loss, stating, “There’s a father who knows better… and he said, ‘It’s time to leave. It’s time to go home.’”
