LABETTE COUNTY — Two people died in a motorcycle accident just after 3 p.m. Wednesday on U.S. 59, two miles northeast of Altamont.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, a 1999 Harley Davidson XL883, driven by Ryan J. Myers, 38, of Altamont, crossed the center line and collided head-on with a southbound 2020 Jeep Gladiator Pickup driven by Shaun T. Powell, 55, of Fort Scott.
Myers and passenger Samantha A. Cahow, 30, of Parsons, were ejected from the motorcycle and pronounced dead at the scene. Their bodies were transported to Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home.
Powell and his passenger were not injured. Authorities reported that neither Myers nor Cahow was wearing helmets at the time of the collision.
The Kansas Highway Patrol is investigating the incident, and no additional details about lane closures or tows have been released.
