LIHUE (Local News Wire) – A collision on Kuhio Highway resulted in serious injuries Monday morning.
According to the Kauai Police Department, the incident occurred at the intersection of Kuhio Highway and Kuamoo Road shortly before 6 a.m.
A 38-year-old man from Hanapepe was driving a Jeep northbound while a 42-year-old man from Kapaa was riding an electric motorcycle southbound.
Authorities said the Jeep was turning left onto Kuamoo Road when it struck the motorcycle, ejecting the rider onto the roadway.
Preliminary reports indicated the motorcycle rider was not wearing a helmet.
Medics transported the motorcyclist to Wilcox Medical Center with serious injuries, and he was later transferred to Queen’s Medical Center in Oahu for further care.
The driver of the Jeep reported no injuries.
Kuhio Highway was closed in both directions at Kuamoo Road for approximately two hours during the investigation by KPD’s Traffic Safety Section.
