Kentucky State Police Investigate Fatal Crash Following Pursuit in Rowan County.

ROWAN COUNTY, KY (WSAZ) – One man died following a vehicle crash related to an attempted traffic stop on March 21, 2026, at approximately 9:05 p.m.

According to the Kentucky State Police, the incident began when a trooper attempted to stop a speeding gray 2017 Chevrolet Camaro on I-64 near mile marker 128. The vehicle failed to stop and accelerated, initiating a pursuit.

The Camaro exited I-64 at exit 133, turning onto KY 801 while evading law enforcement. After losing sight of the vehicle around 8:50 p.m., the trooper continued patrolling the area.

Authorities subsequently located the Camaro at about 9:00 p.m. and initiated a second traffic stop attempt. The driver again increased speed, leading to another pursuit.

As the Camaro approached the intersection of KY 801 and KY 519, the driver lost control, veering off the road and striking a utility pole, resulting in a fire.

Troopers attempted to rescue the driver but were unsuccessful. The operator, identified as Donovan Kyle Porter, 30, of Olive Hill, KY, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Rowan County Coroner’s Office.

The vehicle was engulfed in flames following the crash. The Kentucky State Police Critical Incident Response Team is conducting an ongoing investigation into the incident.
