KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) – The Knoxville Police Department is investigating two deadly crashes that occurred early Thursday morning.
At approximately 3:15 a.m. on July 23, 2026, KPD officers responded to a single-vehicle crash on I-40 West near Strawberry Plains Pike, according to KPD spokesperson Christyn Allen.
An adult female driver was pronounced dead at the scene. A male passenger sustained minor injuries and was transported to the University of Tennessee Medical Center for evaluation.
The vehicle, a Toyota Camry, reportedly veered off the roadway and crashed into a wooded area. Authorities indicated that alcohol may have contributed to the incident.
At around 6:30 a.m., officers were dispatched to a second crash involving a motorcycle and a car at the intersection of Western Avenue and Matlock Drive.
The adult male motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. Preliminary investigations revealed the motorcycle was traveling on Western Avenue when a sedan crossed from Matlock Drive into its path. Authorities stated that alcohol is not believed to have played a role in this collision.
No charges have been filed in either case, and both incidents remain under active investigation by KPD crash reconstruction personnel.
