Los Andes Restaurant Manager in Critical Condition Following Motorcycle Accident, Say Coworkers.

A motorcycle accident on Route 146 southbound left a 27-year-old man critically injured on Sunday afternoon.

According to Rhode Island State Police, Marcelo Villarroel lost control of his motorcycle after hitting a pothole around 2:41 p.m. Witnesses reported he was thrown from the bike.

Emergency responders transported Villarroel to a nearby hospital, where he is currently in critical but stable condition. Authorities confirmed he suffered multiple fractures, including to his wrist, fingers, and leg. Doctors predict a recovery period of four to six months.

Diego Curi, co-owner of Los Andes restaurant where Villarroel serves as general manager, emphasized the importance of helmet use, stating, “If he wasn’t wearing a helmet, he wouldn’t be where he is right now.”

Traffic was affected on Route 146 due to the incident, with lane closures during the response and investigation. No other vehicles were reported to be involved.

Curi mentioned the staff at Los Andes has launched a GoFundMe campaign to assist with medical expenses. Villarroel has aspirations of becoming a full-time pilot.

The investigation into the accident is ongoing. Further information from authorities is pending.
