Louisiana Man Dies in Fatal Hit-and-Run Incident.

Authorities Investigate Fatal Hit-and-Run in Lake Providence, Louisiana

Lake Providence, LA – May 8, 2023 – A 38-year-old man was critically injured in a hit-and-run incident at approximately midnight on Thursday.

According to Louisiana State Police, Exzerial Thompson was struck by a vehicle while standing in an intersection. The driver fled the scene without providing aid.

Emergency responders transported Thompson to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. The vehicle involved has been identified as a 1998 Chevrolet Tahoe.

Law enforcement agencies are collaborating to ascertain the driver’s identity. Officials determined the Tahoe was registered to 55-year-old Ben Jones of Lake Providence.

Jones was arrested and is currently held at the Riverbend Detention Center on a hit-and-run charge. Toxicology samples were collected for analysis as standard procedure in serious injury cases.

The Louisiana State Police remind pedestrians to stay alert and wear reflective clothing while walking, especially during low visibility conditions. Drivers are urged to remain vigilant and avoid distractions while on the road.
