Fatal Crash Claims Life of 36-Year-Old in Abbeville, Louisiana
A 36-year-old woman died Tuesday night in a single-vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 724 near South Fieldspan Road.
According to Trooper First Class Peggy Bourque with the Louisiana State Police, Schuyler Lewis lost control of her vehicle while navigating a curve at approximately 11 p.m. Witnesses reported that Lewis was not wearing a seat belt when the vehicle veered off the road, struck an embankment, and subsequently collided with a tree and a utility pole.
Lewis sustained severe injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by the coroner. Routine toxicology samples have been collected and are pending analysis.
The crash remains under investigation by the Louisiana State Police, who remind all drivers to obey traffic laws, avoid distractions, ensure seat belt use, and refrain from driving if fatigued.
