Clovis, NM (December 27, 2025) — A 22-year-old motorcyclist, Malachi Maldonado, died following a collision on 21st Street on Christmas Day.
The accident occurred at approximately 5:58 p.m. at the intersection with Prince Street, according to Clovis Police dispatch reports. Emergency responders, including Clovis Police, Fire Department, and medical personnel, arrived at the scene shortly after the 911 call.
First responders discovered a severely damaged motorcycle and Maldonado lying in the roadway. A second vehicle involved also sustained significant damage, particularly to its front-end and windshield.
Preliminary investigations indicate that Maldonado was traveling southbound on Prince Street with a green light when the second vehicle made a left turn in front of him. The motorcycle struck the passenger side of the vehicle, resulting in Maldonado being ejected.
Maldonado was transported to Plains Regional Medical Center before being airlifted to a hospital in Lubbock, Texas, where he succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the other vehicle was treated for minor injuries at the same medical center.
The Major Crash Team of the Clovis Police Department is actively investigating the incident. Authorities are asking anyone with information to contact the non-emergency line at 575-769-1921.
