Man succumbs to injuries from motorcycle crash in Ketchikan.

KETCHIKAN, Alaska (KTUU) – A 63-year-old man has died following a motorcycle collision on North Tongass Highway on Saturday around 2:37 p.m.

According to Alaska State Troopers, James Schenk was traveling north behind a van preparing to turn left when he attempted to pass on the left in a no-passing zone.

The motorcycle struck the driver’s side of the van. Witnesses reported that other motorcyclists stopped to assist Schenk until Emergency Medical Services arrived.

Schenk was transported to a Ketchikan hospital in critical condition and later succumbed to his injuries.

The incident is under investigation by authorities. No information about the van driver or other injuries has been released.
