A motorcyclist was killed in a crash on State Highway 6 in Jones County at approximately 7:30 p.m. Monday, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS).
The incident involved a 2025 Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle driven by 22-year-old Mason Alkire of Barton, Maryland, who was reportedly speeding while overtaking a vehicle. A 2022 Ford 350 truck, towing a 2025 Big Tex dump semi-trailer and driven by 42-year-old Jeremy Harris of Stamford, was ahead of the motorcycle.
After overtaking the truck, Alkire lost control and collided with the truck’s rear. Authorities confirmed that Alkire was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
Jones County Justice of the Peace Cheryl Guernsey pronounced Alkire dead at the scene. Harris, who was wearing a seatbelt, reported no injuries.
Emergency responders arrived on the scene, and lane closures were implemented on State Highway 6 south of FM Road 704. The investigation into the incident is ongoing, according to the DPS.
