Michigan man succumbs to injuries days after being struck by motorbike, state police report.

An accident involving a motorcycle and a pedestrian on County Road 451 in Presque Isle County resulted in a fatality, authorities said.

The incident occurred March 1 at approximately 7 p.m. According to a preliminary investigation by the Michigan State Police Alpena Post, an 87-year-old Rogers City man was crossing the road to his mailbox when he was struck by a juvenile operating a motorized dirt bike.

Witnesses reported that the dirt bike was traveling north without a headlight at the time of the collision. The victim was airlifted to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries and succumbed to his injuries on March 5, officials confirmed.

The juvenile rider was not injured in the incident, investigators stated.

In 2023, Michigan recorded 3,161 motorcycle-related crashes, with 173 resulting in fatalities, according to state police statistics. Additionally, there were 2,114 pedestrian crashes in the same year, leading to 183 deaths statewide.

Presque Isle County reported a total of 610 crashes for the year, with two being fatal.
