Middle Georgia Motorcycle Riders Warn That Drivers Often Fail to Pay Attention.

MACON, Ga. — A serious motorcycle accident occurred in Perry on Thursday, raising concerns among local bikers about safety on the roads.

Authorities reported the collision involved multiple vehicles and resulted in confirmed injuries, though specific details are not yet available. Emergency response teams, including local law enforcement and medical personnel, arrived at the scene to assist.

Witnesses indicated that motorcyclists are often overlooked by drivers, leading to dangerous situations. “We have to keep our heads on a swivel at all times,” said biker Michelle Blount, who shared a near-miss experience when a car failed to yield at an intersection.

Motorcycles are noted for their limited visibility and stability compared to cars. Brett Sassaman, a manager at Harley Davidson, emphasized the need for defensive driving among riders. “You have to almost pretend that they don’t see you,” he advised.

According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, motorcyclists face significantly higher fatality rates compared to car occupants. Despite the risks, many riders, including Sassaman and Blount, continue to advocate for the freedom and unique experiences that motorcycling offers.

Sassaman urged motorcyclists to wear appropriate safety gear, including helmets and jackets, while Blount emphasized the importance of awareness among all drivers to ensure the safety of motorcyclists on the road.

The investigation into the accident is ongoing, and further details will be released as they become available.
