JACKSON, Miss. – The Mississippi Highway Patrol (MHP) reported three fatalities and 43 injuries during the 2025 Labor Day Holiday Travel Period, which ended at midnight on Sept. 1.
The enforcement period lasted from Aug. 29 to Sept. 1, resulting in over 5,000 citations statewide. Troopers arrested 92 individuals for impaired driving, issued 617 citations for seatbelt and child-restraint violations, and investigated 159 crashes.
Fatal Crashes Reported:

Lowndes County: On Aug. 30, a two-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 45 at Mike Parra Road involved a Honda Accord driven by 19-year-old Amauriah J. Hill and a Cadillac Deville driven by 23-year-old Nicholas H. Jenkins. Jenkins died at the scene; Hill sustained moderate injuries.

Bolivar County: On Aug. 31, a pedestrian, 34-year-old Edward M. Triplett, was struck and killed by a Dodge Charger driven by 22-year-old De’Anthony Brown on U.S. Highway 61 near Duncan. Triplett was pronounced dead at a local hospital; Brown was unharmed.

Marshall County: On Sept. 1, a crash on Highway 7 involved a GMC Sierra and a motorcycle, resulting in the death of 47-year-old Calvin Brassell. He collided with a northbound truck driven by 28-year-old Malcolm Harris.
All three incidents are under investigation by MHP.
MHP noted a decrease in overall fatalities compared to 2024, when there were seven fatal crashes resulting in 15 deaths.
