ESCAMBIA COUNTY, Ala. (WALA) – A two-vehicle crash on Interstate 65 early Monday morning resulted in the death of a 46-year-old man from Carriere, Miss.
Brandon G. Wascom was driving a 2018 Chevrolet Silverado when he struck the rear of a 2001 Peterbilt tractor-trailer around 6 a.m., according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA). The Chevrolet caught fire following the collision.
ALEA reported that Wascom was pronounced dead at the scene.
The incident occurred near the 73-mile marker, approximately 18 miles north of Flomaton. Authorities indicated that Interstate 65 sustained lane closures while emergency response was underway.
Troopers with ALEA’s Highway Patrol Division are conducting an ongoing investigation into the crash.
