Gulfport Motorcycle Crash Claims Navy Sailor’s Life
Gulfport, MS – Construction Mechanic 3rd Class Joshua Aaron Ray Newton, 23, died in a motorcycle accident on December 8, 2023.
The incident occurred shortly after Joshua and another unidentified sailor departed a local Waffle House. As they rode, the other sailor lost control on gravel and crashed. When Joshua attempted to assist, he also crashed. Alcohol was not a factor, according to his father, Aaron Newton.
Authorities confirmed the involvement of two motorcycles in the collision. The injured sailor was treated and released at a local medical facility. Emergency response included local Fire and Rescue. No additional injuries were reported.
Joshua Newton, assigned to Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 133 since May 2017, was acknowledged as a promising sailor by his command. A memorial service is scheduled for December 14 at 10:30 a.m. in the Naval Construction Battalion Center Gulfport Chapel.
The family expressed gratitude for the community support during their loss, with a notable turnout of around 200 bikers at Joshua’s funeral. The Navy’s investigation into the accident is ongoing.
