A motorcycle accident in Sheridan on Saturday morning resulted in the death of Amber Barnes, a 44-year-old Montcalm County EMS employee.
According to Michigan State Police, Barnes was riding eastbound on Condensery Road after turning from M-66 around 11:25 a.m. when she lost control of her motorcycle and crashed. She was not wearing a helmet at the time of the incident. Barnes was transported to a local hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.
Barnes, a Greenville High School graduate and the billing and accounts manager for Montcalm County EMS since 2013, was described by Emergency Services Director Eric Smith as a vital member of the team. “Amber will be sorely missed for sure,” Smith said, emphasizing her role in the financial stability of the department.
Emergency responders, including local police and medical units, were on the scene to assist. The investigation into the crash is ongoing. No further details regarding lane closures or tows were reported.
Funeral services for Amber Barnes are scheduled for Thursday at 1 p.m. at Hurst Funeral Home in Greenville, with visitation set for 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Montcalm County Animal Shelter.
