SHELBY – A motorcycle crash on Woodrow Road in Shelby Township late Sunday night resulted in critical injuries and one fatality.
At approximately 10:07 p.m., Mason-Oceana 911 dispatched emergency responders to the scene, where two motorcycles were involved. Authorities said both motorcycles were traveling westbound on the dirt portion of Woodrow Road when the operator of the second motorcycle allegedly performed a wheelie and struck the rear of the first motorcycle.
The second motorcycle’s operator, a 20-year-old man from Shelby, sustained critical injuries and was transported by Life EMS to the Oceana County Airport. He was subsequently transferred to Corewell Health AeroMed for further treatment at Corewell Health Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids, where he later died from his injuries.
The operator of the first motorcycle, a 23-year-old man from New Era, was arrested for Operating While Intoxicated and taken into custody at the Oceana County Jail. The investigation into the crash is ongoing, and additional charges may be considered.
