Motorcycle Accident on Hwy. 144 Prompts Airlift to Hospital.

A motorcycle accident near Strathy Hall on Steele Wood Drive required an airlift evacuation on Wednesday afternoon.

According to the Georgia State Patrol, Gary Quinney, 56, of Richmond Hill, was ejected from his motorcycle after losing control during a turn. He suffered internal and external injuries and was airlifted to Memorial Hospital.

Authorities stated Quinney is expected to make a full recovery. Local residents have voiced concerns about the turn, with a fatal accident at Steele Wood and Hwy. 144 in 2000 leading to its nickname, “dead man’s curve.”

Bryan County Sheriff’s Department Captain Mike Maxwell noted the intersection has seen multiple minor accidents, but Wednesday’s incident and the 2000 fatality are the only significant accidents in recent memory.
