Motorcycle Crash Claims Life of New York State Police Sergeant in East Fishkill
EAST FISHKILL, NY — A motorcycle accident on the Taconic State Parkway claimed the life of Sergeant Nigel K. Barnett, 49, on Tuesday, September 16, 2025.
According to the New York State Police (NYSP), the crash occurred at approximately 6:31 a.m. on the southbound side of the parkway near mile marker 36.1. Sergeant Barnett was operating a 2025 Ducati motorcycle when he lost control, resulting in him being ejected and striking the guardrail.
Emergency responders performed life-saving measures, but Sergeant Barnett was pronounced dead at the scene. The NYSP’s preliminary investigation into the incident is ongoing.
Sergeant Barnett served 19 years with the NYSP and was the Station Commander at State Police Cortlandt, Troop K. Further updates will be provided as the investigation develops.
