ROANOKE, Va. — A high-speed motorcycle crash on Interstate 581 resulted in a fatality on March 5 at 5:09 p.m.
According to Virginia State Police (VSP), the incident occurred in the southbound lanes near the Valley View Mall entrance ramp. A 2025 Harley Davidson motorcycle struck the rear of a 2011 Ford Explorer while changing lanes.
The motorcycle driver, identified as 38-year-old Anthony Lee Spencer of Roanoke, was pronounced dead at the scene. VSP confirmed he was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.
The driver of the Ford Explorer sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Roanoke Memorial Hospital for treatment, authorities said.
The Virginia State Police Crash Reconstruction Team is assisting with the investigation, which remains ongoing. No lane closures were reported following the incident.
