(SHERIDAN) — A crash involving four motorcycles on Missouri Highway 46 east of Sheridan claimed one life and injured another on Saturday afternoon.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported the incident occurred around 2:40 p.m. at the intersection of Route F and Highway 46, approximately three miles east of Sheridan. Authorities confirmed that a 65-year-old man from Bedford was operating a 2017 Harley Davidson when he attempted a left turn onto Route F, causing a chain reaction among the following motorcycles.
A 44-year-old man from Winterset, riding a 2025 Harley Davidson, failed to notice the slowing bike and swerved left, colliding with it. The impact led to the overturning of his motorcycle, ejecting him from the vehicle.
Subsequently, a 2021 Harley Davidson driven by a 47-year-old Bedford man struck the overturned bike, also resulting in his ejection. A fourth motorcycle, a 2025 Harley Davidson operated by a man from Patterson, Iowa, attempted to avoid the incident but ran over the Winterset man.
The Winterset rider was pronounced dead at the scene, while the Bedford man was transported to Mosaic Medical Center in Maryville with moderate injuries. Authorities noted that none of the riders were wearing safety devices.
The Worth County Sheriff’s Office, Worth County EMS, Sheridan Fire, and Grant City Fire assisted on scene. The investigation remains ongoing, according to the Patrol.
