Motorcycle crash in Hampton under investigation after fatality.

HAMPTON, Va. — Virginia State Police report that a motorcyclist died Thursday morning after a crash on Interstate 664 following a pursuit for reckless speeding.

According to VSP, troopers attempted to stop a 2007 Kawasaki Motorcycle around 10:37 a.m. for traveling 100 miles per hour in a 60 miles per hour zone. The motorcyclist refused to yield and accelerated, prompting VSP to terminate the chase one minute later as they lost sight of the vehicle at Aberdeen Road.

Approximately three minutes later, at 10:40 a.m., the Hampton Police Department alerted VSP to a two-vehicle crash involving the motorcycle at the intersection of Aberdeen Road and Aluminum Avenue. Troopers arrived on the scene around 10:57 a.m.

Authorities confirmed that the motorcycle exited I-664 South and made a right turn at the ramp, failing to stop at a red light at the intersection. The motorcycle collided with a 2006 Mercury Mountaineer on the driver’s side.

The motorcyclist, identified as 40-year-old Clifton Lee Holden Jr. of Hampton, was transported to Riverside Regional Hospital, where he later died from his injuries. The driver of the Mercury Mountaineer sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was also taken to the hospital.

The crash remains under investigation, and any subsequent lane closures or traffic impacts have not been reported.
