POLAND, Maine (WGME) — A motorcyclist is in critical condition following a collision with an SUV at an intersection in Poland on Tuesday evening.
According to the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred around 8:35 p.m. when a motorcycle operated by a 32-year-old man collided with an SUV driven by a 48-year-old woman from Massachusetts at the intersection of Bakerstown Road (Route 11) and North Raymond Road.
Authorities reported the motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash and was ejected from the bike, sliding into a ditch along Bakerstown Road.
Witnesses indicated the motorcycle had been seen prior to the accident without its headlight on. The motorcyclist was transported to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston and later transferred to Maine Medical Center in Portland, where he is currently in critical condition.
The crash is under investigation, and no further details about lane closures or tows have been released.
