CLEBURNE COUNTY, Ala. (WBRC) – A motorcycle crash has resulted in a fatality after a woman died from her injuries 11 days post-accident, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA).
ALEA reported that on Sunday, March 1, a man and woman were riding a 2024 BMW S1000 RR motorcycle on Alabama 281. At approximately 2:48 p.m., the motorcycle left the roadway and collided with a guardrail.
Both riders were thrown from the motorcycle and sustained critical injuries. They were airlifted to UAB Hospital in Birmingham for treatment, per ALEA.
On Thursday, March 12, the passenger, identified as 34-year-old Rachel M. Smith of Asheville, died at the hospital from her injuries. The condition of the driver has not been disclosed.
ALEA stated that the incident is under investigation.
