Motorcycle crash on Elizabeth Pike leaves passenger hospitalized and under investigation.

WOOD COUNTY, W.Va. (WTAP) – A motorcycle crash involving multiple vehicles on Elizabeth Pike left two injured on April 27.

Wood County 911 dispatchers received the call at 3:11 p.m. for a serious injury incident in the 5500 block of Elizabeth Pike. The Wood County Sheriff’s Office, Mineral Wells Volunteer Fire Department, and multiple ambulances from WVU Medicine Camden Clark responded.

According to investigators, a 2015 GMC Sierra driven by Steven Dickel, 63, was stopped to turn left when a 2001 Harley-Davidson motorcycle, ridden by Jacob Newell, 40, lost control while approaching a curve.

Deputies reported that Newell and his passenger, Cassandra Archer, 43, were ejected as the motorcycle slid across the roadway. Archer was thrown into the northbound lanes, while the motorcycle collided with a 2012 Honda CR-V driven by Stephen Wilburn, 55, and a 2016 Ford Escape driven by Crystal Ferguson, 41.

Authorities confirmed that Archer suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to Charleston Area Medical Center. Newell was transported to WVU Medicine Camden Clark for treatment.

No injuries were reported for Dickel, Wilburn, or Ferguson. The crash remains under investigation by the Wood County Sheriff’s Office.

WOOD COUNTY, W.Va. (WTAP) – Two people were taken to the hospital following a motorcycle crash on Elizabeth Pike Monday afternoon.

Dispatch confirmed the call came in at 3:11 p.m., reporting a crash involving a motorcycle and two cars. One injured individual was taken by ambulance, while the other was flown by helicopter.

Elizabeth Pike was closed above and below the 5400 block for over an hour, reopening shortly after 4:30 p.m. The Wood County Sheriff’s Office is leading the ongoing investigation.
