Motorcycle Crash in Berkeley County Leaves One Dead
BONNEAU, S.C. — A motorcycle crash on U.S. 17A resulted in the death of Bryan M. Rodger, 60, early on July 14, according to the Berkeley County Coroner’s Office.
The collision occurred around 6:50 a.m. when Rodger, riding a 1985 Kawasaki motorcycle south on U.S. 17A, was struck by a 2003 Ford pickup. Authorities said the pickup was also traveling south and hit Rodger’s motorcycle while attempting to turn left onto Church of God Road.
Rodger was pronounced dead at the scene, while the pickup driver sustained no injuries, according to Cpl. Nick Pye of the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
The circumstances regarding helmet use for Rodger and seatbelt usage for the pickup driver remain unconfirmed. The Highway Patrol and coroner’s office are continuing their investigation.
This year, at least 19 individuals have died in crashes in Berkeley County, with a total of 464 fatalities reported on South Carolina roads as of Sunday, according to the South Carolina Department of Public Safety.
