DOVER, DE — A crash involving a motorcycle and two vehicles left one rider hospitalized and a driver arrested on Monday afternoon.
According to authorities, the incident occurred around 3:17 p.m. at the intersection of Forrest Avenue and Kenton Road. Jessica Lopez, 43, of Hartly, driving a 2026 Mazda 3, allegedly ran a red light and turned left into the path of a 67-year-old man riding a 1990 Harley-Davidson motorcycle.
Witnesses reported the motorcycle skidded after the collision and struck a third vehicle, a Toyota Land Cruiser. The motorcyclist sustained life-threatening injuries and was airlifted by Delaware State Police to a local hospital, where he remains in serious condition.
First responders observed Lopez showing signs of impairment and transported her to a nearby hospital for minor injuries. Police later discovered heroin and drug paraphernalia in her vehicle and possession.
Earlier that day, Lopez had been arraigned on an unrelated felony charge and was prohibited from driving before being released on bail. Following the crash, she was charged with vehicular assault, drug possession, driving under the influence, and related offenses.
Lopez is being held at the Delores J. Baylor Women’s Correctional Institution in lieu of $33,202 cash bail.
