WILMINGTON, Del. (WPVI) — A motorcycle crash on May 16 resulted in the death of 38-year-old Jon Pallett on Limestone Road, authorities confirmed.
According to Delaware State Police, Pallett was riding his Harley-Davidson when he was struck by a car. He was wearing a helmet at the time and reportedly attempted to avoid the collision. The case remains under investigation, and no further details about the circumstances of the crash have been released.
Emergency services responded to the scene, but Pallett succumbed to injuries described by the medical examiner as due to direct force impact. His family expressed profound grief, emphasizing his commitment to safety while riding.
As motorcycling fatalities are on the rise, with seven confirmed deaths in Delaware this year alone, law enforcement is advocating for increased awareness. Corporal Raushan Rich of the Delaware State Police highlighted the importance of visibility for riders.
“Increased visibility can help prevent crashes,” Rich stated.
Pallett, a Marine and an officer with the Delaware Department of Corrections, has been honored posthumously by state lawmakers. Members of Pallett’s family now aim to raise awareness surrounding motorcycle safety to prevent similar tragedies.
Authorities urged motorcyclists to ride defensively, adhere to speed limits, and wear appropriate safety gear as the summer riding season approaches.
