Motorcycle Safety Urged Amid Warmer Weather Following Fatal SE Wichita Crash.

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – A 22-year-old man died from injuries sustained in a motorcycle crash on April 5, 2026, at Lincoln and Oliver streets.

Authorities said the crash involved a motorcycle and a car, resulting in the man’s death. He has been identified as Blaise Stewart.

Emergency responders arrived at the scene shortly after the accident, providing medical aid before transferring Stewart to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Last year, nine motorcycle-related fatalities occurred on Wichita’s roads, raising concerns about rider safety during peak riding season.

The State of Kansas requires motorcyclists to complete 20 hours of riding instruction prior to obtaining a motorcycle license. Experts recommend additional training for new riders.

Mike Vermillion, owner of Motorcycle Rider Education in Wichita, emphasized the importance of proper training before riding on public roads, noting a surge in interest from new riders as temperatures rise.

Vermillion encourages practice in empty parking lots and attendance at rider safety courses to boost confidence and skills.

Instructors advise riders to wear bright clothing for visibility and to stay out of drivers’ blind spots, while drivers are urged to remain vigilant when sharing the road with motorcycles.
