ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. (WSBT) — A motorcyclist is in critical condition following a high-speed crash on Thursday afternoon.
The incident occurred at approximately 3:30 p.m. near the intersection of Cleveland and Hickory Roads when an officer attempted a traffic stop on a speeding motorcycle.
The motorcyclist fled north on Hickory Road, prompting the officer to terminate the pursuit.
According to authorities, the motorcycle continued eastbound on Brick Road, weaving through traffic before crashing at the roundabout at Brick and Gunwood Roads.
The St. Joseph County Fatal Accident Crash Team (FACT) is investigating the incident.
Preliminary reports indicate the motorcycle struck a curb while entering the roundabout, leading to the loss of control.
The driver was transported to a local hospital for treatment. No other vehicles were involved in the crash.
The investigation is ongoing.
