HATTIESBURG, Miss. (WDAM) – A motorcyclist died after a collision with an SUV on Interstate 59 in Hattiesburg on Wednesday, shortly after 3:30 p.m.
According to the Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT), the incident occurred on I-59 South, near U.S. Highway 98 West and the Purple Heart Bridge.
Hattiesburg Police reported that the crash involved an SUV carrying multiple occupants and a motorcycle with one rider. The motorcyclist was ejected and transported to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. The SUV occupants suffered minor injuries.
The identities of those involved have not yet been disclosed. Police confirmed that the motorcycle was found lying in the roadway following the collision.
The crash is under investigation by Hattiesburg Police, and MDOT indicated that lane closures may be in effect during the investigation.
