BEAR, Del. (WPVI) — A motorcyclist was killed in a collision with a car late Wednesday night on Route 40 in New Castle County.

The incident occurred around 11:30 p.m. at the intersection of Route 40 eastbound and Church Road. According to authorities, a 2003 Suzuki GSX-R1000 motorcycle, operated by a 36-year-old man from Wilmington, was traveling in the left lane at a high rate of speed.

At the same time, a 2016 Chrysler 200, driven by a 57-year-old man from Newark, was making a left turn from Route 40 westbound when the motorcycle struck its right side, ejecting the rider onto the roadway. A third vehicle, a 2018 Jeep driven by a 22-year-old woman from Philadelphia, subsequently collided with the motorcycle.
