Motorcyclist Dies Following Multi-Vehicle Crash on Richmond Highway in Lorton

A 24-year-old motorcyclist died following a multi-vehicle crash on Richmond Highway (Route 1) near Mims Street in Lorton on June 17, 2026.

Authorities reported that first responders were dispatched to the scene at approximately 3:29 p.m. following reports of a motorcycle and car collision. The rider, identified as Dwain Martin Jr. of Lorton, was thrown from his motorcycle and sustained life-threatening injuries. He was transported to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries, according to the Fairfax County Police Department (FCPD).

Richmond Highway was closed in both directions between Gunston Cove Road and Hassett Street for the investigation, leading to significant traffic backups, as indicated by Virginia Department of Transportation cameras. Motorists were advised to seek alternate routes.

Witnesses reported that Martin was traveling northbound on a 2023 BMW S100 motorcycle when he collided with a trailer attached to a 2024 Ford F-650 truck, which was turning left into a business driveway from southbound Route 1. Martin was subsequently struck by a 2023 BMW 430i sedan traveling south. Both drivers of the truck and sedan remained at the scene; neither sustained injuries.

The FCPD stated that preliminary investigations suggest alcohol was not a factor, while speed remains under review. The investigation is ongoing, and the Crash Reconstruction Unit has been assigned to the case.
