VILANO BEACH, Fla. – A 56-year-old motorcyclist was killed in a collision with a car late Thursday night on Coastal Highway, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers reported that the motorcyclist, from St. Augustine, was traveling northbound on Coastal Highway (A1A) and initiated a left turn onto Cedar Avenue at approximately 11:30 p.m. Thursday.

A car driven by a 25-year-old man from Ponte Vedra Beach was also heading northbound when it veered into the southbound lane while attempting to overtake another vehicle. The car struck the motorcycle during the turn, ejecting the rider onto the shoulder, where he was pronounced dead at the scene.
