SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WSBT) — A motorcycle crash early Saturday morning resulted in the death of a 61-year-old man.
The incident occurred at approximately 4:45 a.m., near the northbound exit onto Michigan Street from the Bypass.
Authorities identified the victim as Grant Burkett of South Bend. He suffered serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to police, Burkett was traveling westbound on the Bypass when he attempted to exit onto Michigan Street. Evidence indicates that he failed to navigate the curve, causing the motorcycle to leave the roadway and crash.
Northbound lanes on Michigan Street were closed for several hours as investigators gathered evidence and cleared the scene.
The South Bend Police Department is continuing its investigation into the crash.
