Motorcyclist dies in high-speed crash on Alternate A1A in Palm Beach Gardens.

A 21-year-old motorcyclist died in a crash on Alternate A1A Sunday afternoon, according to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident occurred at 3:52 p.m. on February 15 in the northbound lanes of Alternate A1A near Hood Road. Northbound traffic was significantly delayed as deputies investigated the crash scene and cleared the roadway.

Authorities identified the motorcyclist as Jake D. Melvin, 21, of Palm Beach Gardens.

According to the sheriff’s office, Melvin was operating a 2021 Yamaha motorcycle at a high rate of speed in the inside lane, while a 2021 Lexus SUV was ahead in the center lane.

Deputies reported that Melvin lost control of the motorcycle, which overturned and ejected him. The motorcycle slid northbound and collided with the left rear of the Lexus.

Melvin, who was wearing a helmet, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The Lexus driver, wearing a seatbelt, was unharmed.

Next-of-kin notifications have been confirmed, and the crash is under investigation.
