A motorcyclist died and a passenger was injured in a crash early Sunday morning in southwest Tucson.
At approximately 12:01 a.m. on July 5, Alejandro Daniel Ruiz Leon, 34, was riding a Harley-Davidson motorcycle westbound on West Valencia Road near South Cardinal Avenue when he collided with an eastbound Ford F-150 making a left turn, according to the Pima County Sheriff’s Department.
Both Leon and his passenger sustained injuries; Leon was pronounced dead after being transported to a local hospital, while the passenger’s injuries were serious but not life-threatening.
Authorities reported that Leon was not wearing a helmet at the time of the incident. Neither the driver of the Ford nor its passenger required medical attention.
Investigators have stated that Leon appeared to be impaired and speeding at the time of the crash, which are likely contributing factors.
The investigation remains ongoing.
