Motorcyclist Killed in Crash with Tractor-Trailer on Trans Manhattan Expressway
WASHINGTON HEIGHTS – A motorcyclist died following a collision with a tractor-trailer on the Trans Manhattan Expressway early Thursday morning.
According to the Port Authority Police Department, the incident occurred around 5:19 a.m. on the upper-level eastbound Trans Manhattan Expressway. Emergency responders arrived to find the motorcyclist critically injured; the rider was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities confirmed that the tractor-trailer driver sustained no injuries. The crash is currently under investigation.
The incident led to significant lane closures on the inbound approaches to the George Washington Bridge, causing traffic to be redirected onto local streets in Washington Heights. The NYPD deployed traffic agents to assist with congestion during the busy morning commute.
