Motorcyclist dies in two-vehicle crash on LA 43 near Springfield.

SPRINGFIELD, La. — A motorcycle crash on LA 43 near Haynes Settlement Road claimed the life of a 57-year-old man on Sunday afternoon, Nov. 2, at approximately 2 p.m., according to Louisiana State Police Troop A.

Authorities identified the victim as Earl Duncan of Springfield. Initial investigations indicate Duncan was traveling north on a 1999 Honda motorcycle when a northbound 2024 Cadillac XT6 attempted to pass him. For reasons under investigation, Duncan’s motorcycle veered left into the Cadillac’s path, resulting in a collision.

Duncan suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. He was wearing a Department of Transportation-approved helmet at the time of the crash. The Cadillac driver, who was properly restrained, did not sustain any injuries.

Impairment is not suspected, though routine toxicology tests will be conducted as part of the ongoing investigation.

State Police reminded drivers to stay alert, avoid distractions, and adhere to traffic laws. They also encouraged motorcycle operators to use safety gear and consider certified safety courses to minimize the risk of serious injury.
