A motorcyclist died following a crash south of Eureka on Tuesday morning, according to the Woodford County Sheriff’s Office.
The incident occurred at 8:10 a.m. on Illinois Route 117 at County Road 500 North when a motorcycle rear-ended a pickup truck pulling a trailer that had stopped to turn into a field entrance. The motorcyclist was thrown from the vehicle and transported to a Peoria hospital.
Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood identified the motorcyclist as Allen Skaggs, 42, who was pronounced dead at 9:12 a.m. at OSF St. Francis Medical Center.
Authorities are investigating the incident with assistance from the Illinois State Police traffic crash reconstruction unit. Traffic on Route 117 was temporarily detoured while emergency crews cleared the scene.
